Chicago River Wedding

Posted on January 29th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

It seems like just yesterday when it was sunny, and not a cloud in sight as we were setting up Bailey and Michael’s outdoor ceremony and reception over looking the Chicago River this past summer.  Bailey and Michael were such a sweet couple to work with and were very deserving of this beautiful day on which they tied the knot at Rivers Restaurant.

Bailey’s vision of a white, monochromatic, palette with accents of gold throughout was the perfect complement to this already stunning space and her vision was brought to life by our team with perfect execution. They say that all that glitters is not gold… however while that might be true, it should also be said that all that is gold, sure does glitter!

The ceremony’s aisle runner was lined with a trio of jumbo white hydrangea every couple of rows.  At the end of the aisle were two pedestals which both supported a large focal of gold shimmering foliage framed by an ivory fabric backdrop.

Behind this backdrop awaited the reception, where half of the tables were adorned with clear glass compotes overflowing with white and ivory flowers and gold foliage to give that … Read More »

Flower Friday

Posted on June 13th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings, Weddings & Events, Weddings and Events. No Comments

Today on the blog is a rare flower favorite.  Rare because it is only available for a smidgen of time in the Spring.  And today’s feature flowers is…Bleeding hearts!!  You will find them blooming in landscapes and wooded areas in the spring-time.  As a child I absolutely LOVED this plant.  It was one of my favorite flowers with it’s delicate heart shaped petals.  Since it’s availability is very spotty, when I saw them at the flower market I knew I had to scoop some up and create an impromptu bouquet with them.  I hope you enjoy it & Happy Friday!

Happy Flower Friday and Summer Solstice!  With today marking the official start of the summer what better flower to introduce to you all but the Dahlia!  The dahlia is a gorgeous summer flower and just arrived at the flower market last week!  They are simply stunning and coming in a variety of sizes and colors.  If you are planning a summer or fall wedding, you must check them out.  They range in size from the smaller ‘pom pom’ 2″ flowers to the dinner plate dahlias which can reach 6″+ across.  They look great in bouquets and centerpieces and the small little guys look good in boutonnieres.  Enjoy the pictures below of these beauties and get outside and enjoy this beautiful summer day!!

2012 Wedding Wrap-up and top 5 Countdown

Posted on December 31st, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

2013 is upon us and we would like to take a few moments to reflect on our favorite events of 2012.  Thanks to everyone who helped make 2012 a good one, our amazing clients, exceptional vendors, and all you followers of our blog.  We are ready to ring in 2013 and are super excited for all we have in store for 2013, it’s going to be an exciting year with some beautiful weddings and events!

Number five on our list of favorites is our Trash the Dress Session we did with Kristin La Voie Photography.  We created a super bright and textured lush bouquet of ranunculus, dahlias, celosia, tulips, and lots of other pretty filler along with a bohemian headpiece.  You can check out the full blog post on the session HERE.

Number four is a wildflower wedding from the Quad Cities.  I adored this wedding, especially incorporating fall textures to the boutonnieres and mason jar centerpieces.  We used a lot of grass plumes, fall leaves, and berries.  View the entire blog post of this wedding HERE.

Three is a whimsical and rustic inspirational shoot done with Yellow Diamond Events and Kristin La Voie Photography.  It was a blast creating this branch structure … Read More »

Suspended Lighting & Floral

Posted on December 17th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

One of my absolute favorite things to produce in events is suspended lighting and floral.  Hanging flowers add another dimension to the decor of your event.

I love using hanging flowers for the ceremony.  They create such a lovely, whimsical backdrop for the couple to exchange their vows.  Another bonus is that hanging florals are usually less expensive than large arrangements.  We used hanging stock, amaranthus, and smilax vine this past Fall at the Kenilworth Club for an outdoor garden inspired wedding.  So pretty!  Another unique way to use flowers in your ceremony is to suspend them in glass baubles like Nisie’s Enchanted Florist did in the image below.  It looks like a fairytale!

Hanging votives or globe lights can add a romantic feel to a venue.  Lighting has a huge impact on your event.  I’m going to go into more detail on lighting in a future post, but how romantic are those hanging votives at Cafe Brauer below?  They add a dramatic effect to the room, especially for  winter weddings when it gets dark so early outside!  Images from Heather Parker Photography.

The hanging lanterns and garden roses pictured below compliment the sweet table perfectly. Whats not to love?  Cupcakes, … Read More »

DIY Thanksgiving Place Cards

Posted on November 20th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Are you ready for the Holidays?  Thanksgiving is just two days away and today I am sharing some of my favorite place cards to adorn your Thanksgiving table.  They are all super easy to make and will dress up any table!1. White pumpkins are a favorite of mine.  Place one at each place setting for a rustic yet elegant feel.
2. These Magnolia leaves give the table a warm earthy feel.  You can inscribe your guests names on them with a silvery white pen.
3.  These birch pieces are perfect for holding place cards.  This is a great option if you have a fancy design on your cards that you want to showcase.
4.  Fruits and vegetables are great as place card holders.  In this case we are showing an artichoke but the possibilities are endless!  You could use pears, pomegranates, apples, you name it.  Whatever suits you.  Another bonus is that these place cards are also edible!
5.  This little liquidambar fruit is adorable.  When I think of autumn and thanksgiving, I think of lots of earth tones, pods, seeds, and berries.
6.  I am a huge plant fanatic so I love these Potted Herbs.  The best thing about these is that … Read More »
