5 Stylish Rehearsal Dinner Themes

Posted on October 21st, by Life in Bloom in blog, Event Design Trends. No Comments

While couples so often want to keep their wedding decor somewhat conservative and stick to the basics, often they are much more willing to be a little more adventurous when it comes to their rehearsal dinners.  And because of the opportunity that we as designers have to be a little more creative with things, we love rehearsal dinners that much more! So this week, we are sharing 5 unique styles/themes that we think are so fun but are of course, still of great taste.

Tropical is hot right now, any retail shop you walk into, you’ll find palm prints, and flamingos flocking.  And thats why we are obsessing over this table setting our friend, Julie, dreamed up and we produced. Tip: Have your calligrapher write guest’s names on the monstera leaf under the plate.

Newport Nautical

Lanterns, Stripes, and coral; how can you go wrong? Tip: Have it outside or under a tent if possible, for that al fresco experience.

We loved these vibrant little centerpieces we made for a client with vintage tins. Tacos and tequila for everyone!

What are the secrets to a french-inspired rehearsal? 1. Natural furniture with beautiful details 2. A muted color palette 3. Saying “oui, oui”, as much as possible!  Oh and suspended parasols never … Read More »

Saddle and Cycle Club Wedding

Posted on October 12th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Event Recaps. No Comments

One of our very favorite combinations of style, vendors, and overall perfection was Martha and Alex’s wedding this past April. The couple tied the knot at The Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago and then continued the celebration at one of our favorite hidden spots, The Saddle and Cycle Club.

Ivory candle sticks, romantic draping, and a boxwood wall for place cards, were just a few of our favorite details. (Besides Martha’s stunning lace and tulle ballgown!) The romantic and organic palette consisted of white peonies, sweet pea, anemones, O’hara garden roses, blush rice flower, eucalyptus, olive, dusty miller, and more. The palette flawlessly complimented the amazing watercolor calligraphy of Emily Rose Ink.

The entire day was captured by one of our very favorite fine art photographers, Clary Pfeiffer. Martha and Alex were so wonderful to work with and we wish them many years of love and happiness!

Abbey Farms Wedding

Posted on September 27th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Event Recaps. No Comments

Have you ever seen a wedding that looks like a fairy tale? The lighting of the day is just perfect, the couple so happy, and the florals all whimsical and romantic? Dana and Stanley’s wedding was exactly that. Their rustic-chic wedding at Abbey Farms in Aurora was one to remember.

This sweet couple could not have had a more perfect palette. Peonies, sweet pea, cafe au lait dahlias, lisianthus, spray roses, queen anne’s lace, seeded eucalyptus, stock, astillbe and dusty miller all created this soft, peach/pink, wondrous combination.

The ceremony at a neighboring church was wedding-ready after clutches of floral were added to line the aisle. The flower girl wore a babies breath floral crown and the bridesmaids carried petite bouquets to match Dana’s. The men wore ranunculus, dusty miller and brunia berry boutonnieres.

The reception was filled with romantic centerpieces, white linens, gold calligraphy, and a beautiful sunset! The entire day was shot by the talented Katherine Salvatori. Check out Dana and Stan’s big day below…

Galleria Marchetti Wedding

Posted on July 31st, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Galleria Marchetti is one of our favorite Chicago wedding venues to work at.  With it’s beautiful outdoor ceremony space and a newly upgraded tent, this truly unique venue offers couples a chance to create something stunning with a relatively blank slate.  This year our team has a total of three weddings there (two of which we have already produced, and one more this coming September).  Today we are sharing photos from Mary & Stephen’s June wedding at Galleria Marchetti with planning by Five Grain Events and photos by Gerber & Scarpelli.

Some of our favorite elements of their big day were the custom moss covered letter which welcomed guests into the courtyard for cocktail hour, the moss covered escort-card table, and of course the most beautiful tall focal arrangements as centerpieces.

The overall palette of peonies, hydrangea, ranunculus all in shades of soft whites and blushes with tufts of greenery helped paint a perfectly classic and romantic ambience throughout the tent.  Mary & Stephen were the sweetest couple and so deserving of such a beautiful wedding celebration.  We have no doubt that they will enjoy an extremely long and joyful life together! Cheers!

Inspired by both the colors as well as the textures of sea-glass, sand, and driftwood, this beach-wedding inspired shoot came together flawlessly to prove once and for all that beauty can be found in even the haziest of days.  Tamara Gruner Photography captured this timeless example of boy meets girl where sand meets waves in a way that feels so raw and yet invigorating.

Wedding Season Wrap Up

Posted on January 3rd, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings & Events, Weddings and Events. No Comments

Happy New Year!!  We are starting the new year off with a 2013 Wedding Season Wrap Up.  We are super excited for all of the amazing weddings we have booked so far for 2014… but before we launch into a new season, here’s a look back at some of our favorite work from 2013.    We designed and installed fifteen weddings in 2013 along with several photo shoots.  We met the most sincere couples and worked with some of Chicago’s top talent.  It truly was a fabulous year.  As if we could top 2013, it is shaping up to be pretty amazing as well with weddings in downtown Chicago at the Knickerbocker Hotel, Chicago History Museum & Chicago Cultural Center & Greenhouse Loft to name a few.  Thanks to all of our 2013 couples for trusting us with your most special day and to all of our 2014 couples we can’t wait to help you celebrate in style this year!

Pantone Color of the Year | Dazzling Blue

Posted on September 25th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Pantone has announced the 2014 color of the year as Dazzling Blue!  We have already had a few requests from Brides to incorporate some brilliant blues and cobalt colors into their weddings for next year.  Since there aren’t a lot of options with blue flowers, we recommend adding your ‘pops’ of blue in the form of other accents, especially when they are in the form of sequin tablecloths by La Tavolta, pictured below.  Another great idea is to use a cobalt blue vase for your florals.  While these can be hard to come by they are very unique and fun!  Additionally, stationery is a great way to add a pop of color on your menus or invitations, and don’t forget your attendants attire.  There are some great brilliant blue dresses and blue bow ties out there!  Happy Wedding Planning!

New Years Eve Inspiration!

Black, White, and Sparkly Gold New Years Eve

With New Years Eve right around the corner, what better time than now to post an inspiration board of a classic black, white, and sparkly gold fete!  I had a blast putting together this classy New Years Eve inspiration board.  What better way to start your marriage and first year together than a wedding with your family and friends all ringing in the New Year together!

1.  The Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago would be a fantastic venue for a New Years Eve Celebration.  The building’s exterior even fits in with our black, white, and gold color scheme.  2.  Champagne is an obvious must!  3.  These anemones compliment the color scheme perfectly and are a simple yet stately flower.  They look stunning in bouquets and centerpieces.  4.  How about some sparkly Kate Spade’s to adorn your feet?  I think these are one of my absolute favorite pairs of shoes.  5.  New Years Eve wouldn’t be complete without a midnight fireworks display!  6.  There is nothing more romantic than this bride and groom sharing a sweet kiss in the midst of snow flurries.  7.  Black and Gold place settings are class, class, class.  8.  Your bridesmaids … Read More »
