It’s flower friday and today we are unveiling the poppy! Poppies are one of our favorite flowers with their delicate papery petals. In fact, we used them in a design last night for the wedding industry event Thursday Therapy at Fox & Obel. Here is a sneak peek of the florals we created.
More about the poppy… They come in a variety of colors; Orange, Red, Yellow, & Pink. I love the vibrant color of these orange ones! Poppies are a stunning addition to a Spring bridal bouquet. They also look great as a single flower in a bud vase. We are incorporating them into one of our lucky bride’s weddings this Spring and it is going to be fabulous!
In case you missed our special offer in our last blog here it is again:
Know someone getting married this year still looking for a florist? We are offering a free bridal bouquet or home arrangement (if already married) up to $150 in value to any of our clients past or present that refer a new client that books with Life in Bloom by March 1, 2013! Here are a few important things to consider when preparing for your floral consultation! To make the most of your consultation, keep these seven topics in mind when preparing.
We try to work with every budget at Life in Bloom but the process is so much easier for both our clients and us when we are provided with a budget up front. It can be an estimate or a range, but a starting point is greatly appreciated. If you have no idea how much you want to spend on flowers, 10% of your overall budget is the average amount that most people spend on flowers. This varies from couple to couple but if you have no idea where to begin, this is a good starting point.
Where are the celebrations going to take place? Bring along any info that deals with your reception venue. If you have a floor plan of the venue or any other important documents bring them along. Are there any special requirements or restrictions at your venue? For example; the Chicago History Museum does not allow candles. In those cases we would recommend using LED candles as a replacement.
Many churches in Chicago have very strict … Read More »
It’s flower Friday and Paperwhites are in the spotlight. Paperwhites are a bulb in the Narcissus family which is why kind of look a little like mini daffodils. I can’t wait for Spring! Although we have been very lucky with the weather in Chicago so far this year, I’m already wishing for Spring. I can’t wait for some plant life! One thing that keeps me going is getting to work with beautiful flowers on a daily basis. So, without further ado…the Paperwhite.
Paperwhites are available in the winter months, November-January . You can oftentimes find them around the holiday season in plant form as well. They make for a great hostess gift for holiday parties. The flowers are miniature and delicate. I think this flower is a beautiful choice for winter white bridal bouquets. Paperwhites also look great massed, as shown in the tablescape below. Images courtesy of apartment therapy & Decor Amore. Bouquet from Hello Blossoms.
2013 is upon us and we would like to take a few moments to reflect on our favorite events of 2012. Thanks to everyone who helped make 2012 a good one, our amazing clients, exceptional vendors, and all you followers of our blog. We are ready to ring in 2013 and are super excited for all we have in store for 2013, it’s going to be an exciting year with some beautiful weddings and events!
Number five on our list of favorites is our Trash the Dress Session we did with Kristin La Voie Photography. We created a super bright and textured lush bouquet of ranunculus, dahlias, celosia, tulips, and lots of other pretty filler along with a bohemian headpiece. You can check out the full blog post on the session HERE.
Number four is a wildflower wedding from the Quad Cities. I adored this wedding, especially incorporating fall textures to the boutonnieres and mason jar centerpieces. We used a lot of grass plumes, fall leaves, and berries. View the entire blog post of this wedding HERE.
Three is a whimsical and rustic inspirational shoot done with Yellow Diamond Events and Kristin La Voie Photography. It was a blast creating this branch structure … Read More »
Flower Friday: Amaryllis
We are starting a new type of post, Flower Friday, where we will introduce one flower of the season a week! I tend to take my horticulture background for granted sometimes and think that everyone knows the scientific and common names of flowers just like I do. My friends can attest to this, I confuse them all the time. I also hope to introduce some new flowers to you all through these posts.
Since the holidays are here what better flower to start off with than the Amaryllis! Amaryllis come in a variety of colors; white, peach, coral, red, pink, and even some striped or bicolor. They have 3-5 blooms on their long stalk and are the perfect addition to a holiday table or winter wedding bouquet.
Amaryllis are not only a good cut flower for floral design and weddings, but they make a lovely gift as a plant as well! You can buy them pregrown and ready to flower or you can buy a DIY kit like the one I posted about a few weeks ago in my DIY Amaryllis blog. An update on that, my poor little Amaryllis is not growing. I have discovered my apartment … Read More »
Top three trends we are loving here at Life in Bloom are Ombre, Pattern, and Fresh Floral Accessories.
All about Color. Ombre is a super popular trend right now. If you aren’t daring enough to go with an ombre dress, how about an ombre cake? I absolutely LOVE this cake featured on the left, so pretty!
Incorporating patterns into your wedding or party is a nice way to add some interest. This can be in the form of a table runner, napkin, or even a custom candle decal. Patterns are a great way to bring in color and texture to your event without needing to add a lot of floral. This table runner on the right looks adorable with the polka dot napkins and white cylinders. Simple yet stately. Don’t be afraid to mix different patterns and textures when planning your wedding or holiday party!
Fresh Floral Accessories
Unique statement jewelry. These accessories can come in the form of a floral headpiece, floral necklace, hair flower, ring, you name it. Fresh flower accessories are becoming more and more popular for brides. We have had many brides request fresh flowers for their weddings in lieu of a veil. A simple headband of flowers can … Read More »
Your wedding is over, dress has been sent to the cleaners, cake tucked away in the freezer for your 1st anniversary, now what?
How many of you would like to preserve your bouquet in a unique way? Most people typically think of drying their flowers, which results in wilting and dull coloration or freeze drying their bouquet and putting it under a glass dome.
How about another idea? A custom designed oil painting by artist, Reenie Rose. She is incredibly talented and can capture the esessnce of your bridal bouquet in the form of a timeless oil painting.
Her paintings are breathtaking realistic and stunning. Need I say more? The painting above pretty much speaks for itself! Head on over to her website and check out her portfolio for more of her work. Or, check out this video of her painting process, http://vimeo.com/35785044, its amazing!.
