Indie Wed 2015

Posted on March 24th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

We had a blast meeting so many wonderful newly engaged couples at Indie Wed this year!  For the second straight year, Life In Bloom was present at the January event and we put together another beautiful backdrop to compliment an equally stunning tablescape.

We built a custom trellis as a backdrop and covered it in Italian Ruscus greens, Jasmine Vine, and accents of neutral blooms to complete the natural,  organic, mediterranean feel…

Many thanks to Amanda Megan Miller for all the wonderful photos below!!

MCA Wedding

Modern, Colorful, CB2: These were all adjectives that Christina and Jimmy used to describe the vision for their Summer wedding at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA).  We loved their direction of CB2 as inspiration and really took it upon ourselves to create an atmosphere that encapsulated that fun and contemporary style while adding our own fresh approach.

For starters, the guests found their place-cards nestled amongst a spread of white pebbles and a collection of succulents to start the night off right with a clean modern feel (and who doesn’t love succulents?)

As the sun set, the bistro lights that hung over the tables on the terrace started to glow and filled the space with an enchanting mood that only summer nights in a big city can bring about. The table centerpieces consisted of geometric terrariums, oversized glass cloches, dusty blue cylindrical vases, and long rectangular glass vases, all filled with an equally vibrant array of flowers.

The collection of flowers consisted of Protea, Garden Roses, Spray Roses, Billy-Balls, Succulents, and Dahlias, with accents of pink stock, air-plants, and geranium to add texture.

As is the case with any great wedding, the success is always found in the details.  From the beautifully designed wedding … Read More »

Chicago History Museum Wedding

Posted on January 8th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Timeless, elegant, and romantic to the core.  Those are just a few words to describe Andrea & Cam’s gorgeous wedding at the Chicago History Museum that we were so lucky to be a part of this past July!  Because Andrea is also in the wedding industry, we were so honored that she chose us to bring her floral vision to life!

The color palette of blush, ivory, & lavender that Andrea chose was a perfect compliment to the season and also to their venue.  The Chicago History Museum is stunning!  If you are looking for a classic Chicago venue then you must check it out!  The soft gray walls of the venue provided the perfect backdrop for the light shimmering gold linens and pastel flowers that adorned the tables.  The centerpieces were designed in gold mercury glass compotes and filled with the most romantic blooms.  White hydrangea, peach & blush garden roses, lavender stock, pink lisianthus, and touches of eucalyptus provided a very elegant and timeless look for the centerpieces.

Andrea’s bouquet was so beautiful, I wanted to submerge my face in it…  Peonies are also one of her favorite flowers, and with their wedding falling at the end of July, one … Read More »

2014 Wedding Season

Posted on December 31st, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

2014 was nothing short of incredible… and 2015 is shaping up to be even better.  But before that ball drops, and we look ahead to 2015, let us first reflect on some events that made 2014 so special.  As a small business owner, while it can be stressful and crazy at times, I couldn’t be more excited about the progress we have made over the last year.

I am incredibly thankful for all of my clients who trusted Life In Bloom and for all of the wonderful vendors that I was lucky enough to collaborate with throughout the year.  To me, being a designer is all about pushing the envelope.  Life in Bloom was blessed to work with so many clients that let us push the envelope this year and develop some truly unique concepts, as well as some amazingly talented vendors that pushed us to elevate our work to another level.

I am equally thankful for all of the people who played an instrumental role in helping Life In Bloom to produce thirty-three weddings without missing a beat.  Friends, family members, industry friends: everyone played their part in making this year such an enormous success.

Most of all I am beyond thankful … Read More »

Thanksgiving!

Posted on November 26th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

There are several factors that make Thanksgiving one of the all-time best holidays.

Food, family, and a Festive atmosphere!

Since I’m spending the holiday in Colorado with family this year and thus won’t be able to decorate my own table, I figure the next best thing is to write a blog touching on some of my favorite ways to adorn your thanksgiving smorgasbord.

Pumpkins and gourds are a great, and easy way to add interest to your holiday table.  We recommend gathering a collection of different sizes and shapes.  To keep it cohesive, stick to one color palette.  I personally love the look of these white pumpkins perhaps mixed with some gray ones as well.  Neutrals are an emerging trend and with the winter holiday season approaching, it is best to put the bold & colorful palettes to rest for the season.

If you’re feeling ambitious, you can choose to dress up or decorate a few of your pumpkins.  I love this one pictured below; perfect for the season, and after all, nothing says class like some accents of gold.  For this, all you need is a gold Sharpie and a steady hand!

Another way to dress up your table is … Read More »

Bright Spring University Club Wedding

Posted on May 28th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Ellie & her family were nothing but a pleasure to work with through the planning process.  Ellie & John were married over memorial day weekend at the University Club and if you haven’t seen the University Club before, get ready to wow over these photos.  It is a classic and stunning Chicago venue with an amazing view of Millennium park.  I apologize that my photography skills are not the best, but hopefully I will have some professional ones to share on the blog in a few months.  Because the ceilings at the University Club were so high we wanted to incorporate a tall centerpiece to break up the large space.  We used curly willow branches with hydrangea and hanging candles to cast a romantic glow.  The floral colors of pink, purple, and white were reflected on each table, and the most amazing hot pink peonies brightened up the Library for the cocktail hour.  There were also little touches of Purple Vanda Orchids in the low floral trio centerpiece.  If you haven’t seen these beauties in person before, they are remarkable and one of my favorite orchids.  Congratulations Ellie & John!  Hope you enjoyed a wonderful day with family & friends!
