Life in Bloom Studio Tour

Posted on June 28th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

A lot of people that we work with are often curious about where we produce all of our stunning events.  Believe it or not, as of a year ago, we were producing everything out of my home in Lincoln Park.  It took a lot of trips up and down the stairs on wedding day, and even more patience from my husband who had to deal with coming home to a house exploding with flowers, but we made it work… I’m sure one of these days, we’ll look back and reminisce about those days, but for now, we are super excited about our new workspace!

We moved into our new studio back in February, located near the intersection of Grand and Western.  Conveniently located near many of the wholesale floral markets, and earshot from all of the beautiful downtown venues, this space is absolutely perfect for us.  From the moment I walked in to view the space, I knew this was going to be our new home.  The cute exposed brick, and the old tin ceilings, provide a quaint environment, perfect for meeting with clients as well as producing larger events in one big open space.

Over the last few months we have … Read More »

Dreamy Beach Wedding Inspiration

Posted on June 15th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Inspired by both the colors as well as the textures of sea-glass, sand, and driftwood, this beach-wedding inspired shoot came together flawlessly to prove once and for all that beauty can be found in even the haziest of days.  Tamara Gruner Photography captured this timeless example of boy meets girl where sand meets waves in a way that feels so raw and yet invigorating.

We were delighted to be a part of such an amazing shoot and loved getting to work with such amazing vendors (see complete list below).  Enjoy some of the stunning photos right here… and to see more of this beautiful shoot, featured on style me pretty, click on the link below!

Chicago Wedding Venues

Posted on March 31st, by Life in Bloom in blog. 1 Comment

Today we are chatting about some of the most spectacular wedding venues/event spaces that Chicago has to offer.  There are wide variety of venues to choose from in this wonderful city and we wanted to highlight some of our favorites.

1. Cafe Brauer

I may be a little biased, but since my husband and I got married here it will always hold a special place in my heart.  With the gorgeous prairie style architecture and the spectacular views of Lincoln Park and the city skyline as seen from the loggias, what’s not to love?  It’s a beautiful oasis for a Chicago wedding set in the middle of the park.  Perfect for those couples wanting a downtown Chicago wedding with the feel of the outdoors & nature as well.  Photos by Kina Wicks Photography.

2. Garfield Park Conservatory

This space is a real gem hidden in the west side of Chicago.  Nestled amongst some beautiful gardens, there are so many gorgeous spaces both inside and out of the Conservatory including horticulture hall, the fern room, and many more.  This ceremony & reception (seen below) at the Conservatory was one of our favorite weddings that we produced this past year. Chicago River Wedding

Posted on January 29th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

It seems like just yesterday when it was sunny, and not a cloud in sight as we were setting up Bailey and Michael’s outdoor ceremony and reception over looking the Chicago River this past summer.  Bailey and Michael were such a sweet couple to work with and were very deserving of this beautiful day on which they tied the knot at Rivers Restaurant.

Bailey’s vision of a white, monochromatic, palette with accents of gold throughout was the perfect complement to this already stunning space and her vision was brought to life by our team with perfect execution. They say that all that glitters is not gold… however while that might be true, it should also be said that all that is gold, sure does glitter!

The ceremony’s aisle runner was lined with a trio of jumbo white hydrangea every couple of rows.  At the end of the aisle were two pedestals which both supported a large focal of gold shimmering foliage framed by an ivory fabric backdrop.

Behind this backdrop awaited the reception, where half of the tables were adorned with clear glass compotes overflowing with white and ivory flowers and gold foliage to give that … Read More »

Monet Water Lily Wedding Inspiration

Posted on January 27th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

For those of you who are familiar with the work of Claude Monet, upon recalling some of his famous paintings, images of a natural setting with reflective bodies of water baring lily pads likely come to mind.

Inspired by Claude’s artistic style, trademarked by a seemingly blurry combination of oil pastels, and a love for nature, Ashley La Fleur of La Belle Fleur Events spearheaded a collaborative effort in creating our own work of art that mimicked Claude’s love for nature and all of its beauty.

In our own interpretation, we created a romantic scene where we brought to life, a soft, pastel color palette reminiscent of Monet’s work.  From the flatware to the overhanging floral focal and everything in between, the space was filled with a feeling of translucent airiness.

One of our favorite elements from the shoot was the suspended “chandelier” which we constructed out of varying shades of blue delphinium and lime-green amaranthus, all hanging from a manzanita branch to create a perfectly whimsical & dreamy enclosure.

We also created some beautiful bouquets that captured both the color palette as well as the mood of a Parisian pond in the summer time.  With a collection of Cafe Au Lait Dahlias, Ginger, Amaranthus, Astilbe, … Read More »

Adler Planetarium Wedding

Posted on January 21st, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings & Events. 2 comments

Maureen & Anthony reached out to us with the vision of a colorful floral palette yet elegant mood for their fall wedding at the Adler Planetarium.

To many, the idea of bold colors and romantic elegance may seem like two contradicting visions, but for Life In Bloom, it was the perfect opportunity to get creative and design something fresh, unique, and of course, stunning.

October is usually one of the busiest months for weddings in Chicago, and this past year was no exception for Life In Bloom… and for good reason!  The weather on Maureen & Anthony’s wedding day (October 25th) was nothing short of perfect.  What bride wouldn’t want to get married on a crisp fall day when the trees are ablaze with color?

Upon entering the Adler Planetarium, guests witnessed a variation of different styled centerpieces, all of which evoked a “WOW”.  Throughout the dusk-filled room, the tables were covered with navy linens and hosted tall glass vases filled with a beautiful collection of coral, orange & yellow roses, orange dahlias, yellow orchids, hydrangea and a touch of greenery.  The rest of the tables were adorned with a collection of vases with submerged orchids and floating candles.

The use of glass in the … Read More »

Kemper Lakes Outdoor Wedding

Posted on January 6th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Tieg and Nick (high school sweethearts) were married this past September at Kemper Lakes golf club, and we had the privilege of doing the flowers for both their reception and ceremony.  The two lucked out with the most perfect weather, as they held their ceremony outside along the lake.

With the weeping willows acting as a backdrop to this beautiful setting, and the stunning floral palette of jewel tones, berries, and greenery, it all made for a picture-perfect ceremony.  A vintage wine barrel flanked by a collection of lanterns acted as the ceremony focal, while the aisle was lined with shepherds hooks, each which held a mason jar full of beautiful, multi-textural fall blooms.  Simply stunning.

The couple wanted to carry the rustic wine-inspired theme throughout their entire day so in addition to the ceremony barrels, we used wine bottles as a part of some of the centerpieces.  Tieg, being a project manager had a pretty clear and firm idea of what she wanted in terms of flowers so we worked together to create this beauty seen below.  She wanted bright jewel toned fall colors and absolutely loved amaryllis.  We combined various shades of roses, peach amaryllis, along with berries and other … Read More »

2014 Wedding Season

Posted on December 31st, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

2014 was nothing short of incredible… and 2015 is shaping up to be even better.  But before that ball drops, and we look ahead to 2015, let us first reflect on some events that made 2014 so special.  As a small business owner, while it can be stressful and crazy at times, I couldn’t be more excited about the progress we have made over the last year.

I am incredibly thankful for all of my clients who trusted Life In Bloom and for all of the wonderful vendors that I was lucky enough to collaborate with throughout the year.  To me, being a designer is all about pushing the envelope.  Life in Bloom was blessed to work with so many clients that let us push the envelope this year and develop some truly unique concepts, as well as some amazingly talented vendors that pushed us to elevate our work to another level.

I am equally thankful for all of the people who played an instrumental role in helping Life In Bloom to produce thirty-three weddings without missing a beat.  Friends, family members, industry friends: everyone played their part in making this year such an enormous success.

Most of all I am beyond thankful … Read More »

Thanksgiving!

Posted on November 26th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

There are several factors that make Thanksgiving one of the all-time best holidays.

Food, family, and a Festive atmosphere!

Since I’m spending the holiday in Colorado with family this year and thus won’t be able to decorate my own table, I figure the next best thing is to write a blog touching on some of my favorite ways to adorn your thanksgiving smorgasbord.

Pumpkins and gourds are a great, and easy way to add interest to your holiday table.  We recommend gathering a collection of different sizes and shapes.  To keep it cohesive, stick to one color palette.  I personally love the look of these white pumpkins perhaps mixed with some gray ones as well.  Neutrals are an emerging trend and with the winter holiday season approaching, it is best to put the bold & colorful palettes to rest for the season.

If you’re feeling ambitious, you can choose to dress up or decorate a few of your pumpkins.  I love this one pictured below; perfect for the season, and after all, nothing says class like some accents of gold.  For this, all you need is a gold Sharpie and a steady hand!

Another way to dress up your table is … Read More »

Autumnal Galleria Marchetti Wedding

Posted on November 19th, by Life in Bloom in blog. 1 Comment

Alysha & Sean are two of my very best friends so this blog might come with a little bit of bias, but I’m confident that you’ll find their fall wedding as beautiful as I do!  The two were married at Galleria Marchetti in early October as the fall colors were in full force throughout the city.

For their special day, they wanted bright & bold colors with the major focus being purple & orange with accents of red which we incorporated through berries and some deep merlot dahlias.

Outside of the color palette (and Alysha’s vision for her beautiful Calla Lily Bouquet), Sean & Alysha gave us full creative control to do whatever we want — as long as it looked beautiful of course!

We wanted to capture fall but also keep it elegant and somewhat formal.  To do that, we incorporated a range of flowers to add a variety of textures ranging from the soft Lisianthus blooms to the full and rigid Dahlias.

For the centerpieces we designed a hydrangea filled rustic wooden box with orchids and fall oak leaves spilling out as well as a manzanita branch that hosted hanging votives.

Last, but certainly not least, no wedding would be complete without a … Read More »
