Emmerson Creek Barn Wedding

Posted on August 26th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Chelsey and John were married at Emmerson Creek Barn this past summer.  The barn and tent were filled with lots of color, a bit of rustic charm and plenty of vintage touches.

The bridesmaid’s pastel bouquets popped off their coral lace dresses perfectly while Chelsea’s bouquet of coral charm peonies, peach garden roses, blush lisianthus, ivory dahlias, and lots of other textures complimented her bridal gown wonderfully.

Chelsea worked with a vintage rentals company to select her reception vessels which consisted of silver trays, a trio of milk glass vases, crystal vessels, and polished silver teapots.  The texture of the silver teapots was captivating and created that perfectly aged aesthetic on the tables!  We filled them all with a colorful palette of wildflower blooms which really popped in the tent.  Lidia & Rueben of Codrean Photography were there to capture every detail perfectly.

Flower Friday: Muscari

Posted on March 27th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Uncategorized. No Comments

Happy Friday!  Today we are dishing about one of our favorite little bulb flowers, Muscari, also known as Grape Hyacinth for their tiny urn-shaped flowers that resemble bunches of grapes!  I love this finely textured flower in both the landscape and for its use in floral design.

In the landscape Muscari blooms in early Spring.  You can also expect to find it as a cut flower during this time.  They look stunning and create a great effect when massed in the landscape, such as lining a driveway or naturalizing through the beds.

I love using Muscari in fresh floral arrangements as a little accent flower and for a pop of color.  There aren’t many blue-hued flowers out there either, and this is one of our favorites.  It also looks so adorable as an accent in a boutonniere.  Enjoy the images below!

Have a great weekend!  If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend in Chicago may I suggest Macy’s Art in Bloom Show which is happening this weekend and goes through next Saturday, April 4th.  Check it out if you are in the area!

Flower Friday

Posted on June 13th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings, Weddings & Events, Weddings and Events. No Comments

Today on the blog is a rare flower favorite.  Rare because it is only available for a smidgen of time in the Spring.  And today’s feature flowers is…Bleeding hearts!!  You will find them blooming in landscapes and wooded areas in the spring-time.  As a child I absolutely LOVED this plant.  It was one of my favorite flowers with it’s delicate heart shaped petals.  Since it’s availability is very spotty, when I saw them at the flower market I knew I had to scoop some up and create an impromptu bouquet with them.  I hope you enjoy it & Happy Friday!

Wedding Flower Friday

Time for another round of Wedding Flower Friday, this time with the funky & cool flower, Sandersonia.  How unique is this flower?!  I just think they are so cute.  To me, they look like little orange hot air balloons.  They make a statement grouped together in mass.  A few weeks ago we used them in our cocktail arrangements for Silvia & Ron’s Wedding at the Kenilworth Club.  They also look great tucked into bouquets or large gardeny arrangements.  Enjoy and Happy Friday!

Flower Friday | Dusty Miller

Today’s featured flower for flower friday isn’t technically a flower, but a foliage– Dusty Miller.  Dusty Miller is a silvery foliage that adds a soft touch to any arrangement or bouquet.  For those of you who aren’t big on ‘greens’, dusty miller may be another option to consider.  It also looks especially great in Winter weddings as it adds a nice silvery touch!

Flower Friday | King Protea

Posted on September 6th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Happy Friday!  This week’s featured flower is a unique one: The one and only King Protea!  If you are looking for something ‘one of a kind’ and tropical or exotic for your wedding, protea are a perfect choice.  King Protea are native to South Africa where they are, in fact, the National Flower.  With their large size, protea are a great option as a focal flower in a centerpiece.  They are just as gorgeous in mixed bouquets as they are in a single stem bouquet.  Additionally, it is an extremely long-lasting flower and also dries very well.  As a result, you can enjoy these beauties for quite a long time.  Enjoy the images below!
