Wedding Flower Friday

Posted on May 30th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings & Events, Weddings and Events. No Comments

Time for another round of Wedding Flower Friday, this time with the funky & cool flower, Sandersonia.  How unique is this flower?!  I just think they are so cute.  To me, they look like little orange hot air balloons.  They make a statement grouped together in mass.  A few weeks ago we used them in our cocktail arrangements for Silvia & Ron’s Wedding at the Kenilworth Club.  They also look great tucked into bouquets or large gardeny arrangements.  Enjoy and Happy Friday!

Bridal Fete Chicago

Posted on May 20th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings & Events, Weddings and Events. No Comments

In February we had the honor of participating in Bridal Fete Chicago’s bouquet bar.  Their famed bouquet bar displayed bouquets from a dozen or so of some talented florists in Chicago.  The event was held at Roosevelt University in the Loop, which is SUCH a gorgeous place for a special event!  For our bouquet we opted for a vibrant palette of luscious pink peonies, always amazing Cafe Au Lait Dahlias, pale pink Ranunculus, a touch of checkered Fritillaria and acacia foliage.  We finished off the look with delicate white & pink bi-color Clematis.  I didn’t order them specifically for this bouquet but my salesperson, Laura, pulled them out for me since she knows how much I love Clematis and I just couldn’t resist them!  I think they added the perfect finishing touch to the bouquet.

Enjoy the lovely images below from Carasco Photo of the event and the bouquet we made.

Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago Wedding

Posted on May 15th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings & Events, Weddings and Events. No Comments

Throwback Thursday to our first wedding of the 2014 wedding season!  Kala & Michael hosted a classic Chicago Wedding.  They were married at Old St. Pat’s with their reception at the gorgeous Millenium Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago.  Since the venue is so so so SO gorgeous we didn’t need much to beautify the space.  Kala & Michael were married on Valentines Day weekend and the theme of love was carried throughout their day and in their decor.  For Kala’s bouquet we used the most beautiful red roses and accented it with several small gems that gave it an extra sparkle.  Half of the tables were adorned with beautiful clear vase centerpieces filled with a classic valentine’s day palate of red roses, white roses, and dusty miller.  The remaining tables were decorated with manzanita branches with hanging crystal strands that sparkled from across the room, helping render the perfect winter wedding.

A huge thanks to Timothy Whaley Photographic Artists for all of the images below.  Enjoy!!

Congrats again you two and thanks for including us in your special day!!

Wedding Trends

Posted on April 29th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

It’s been wayyyy too long since we’ve blogged.  So, today we thought we’d explore some up and coming wedding & design trends.  Below are some developing trends that we see hitting the mainstream track over the next year.

1. Brass & Copper

Brass & Copper are huge in the wedding world right now.  They are classy & timeless and we see them replacing gold and mercury glass.  If you are looking to rent vintage vases for your wedding I suggest taking a look at Nimble Well or Refind Joy‘s beautiful collections of brass & copper.  They have a lot of great pieces to choose from and I’m excited to be working with them this May!

2. Blue.  The color.  All Shades of it.

Blue is my favorite color so nothing makes me happier than to see blue taking over the design scene this year.  Mix and match shades for a cool and cohesive look.  Our most recent wedding had sky blue table runners mixed with deep cobalt blue vases and pale blush flowers for a beautiful Springtime look.  You simply can’t go wrong when mixing … Read More »

Indie Wed Bridal Show

Posted on February 25th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Weddings & Events, Weddings and Events. No Comments

We had a blast at the Indie Wed Bridal Show a few weeks ago, meeting new couples and mingling with our industry friends.  Here’s a little image recap of our booth!  We went for a Kate Spade theme which meant class and color!  For our backdrop we created a custom frame which we adorned with Oregonia.  For the florals we incorporated tons of romantic blooms; garden roses,  and for a little pop of color, the most gorgeous icelandic poppies and hot pink anemones.  To complete the look, we added a sequin linen from Private Label Linens.

Enjoy!

Pantone announced Radiant Orchid as the 2014 Pantone color of the year.  Enjoy a little wedding Radiant Orchid wedding inspiration below.  My personal favorite is the bright-hued bouquet of aubergine anemones.  How gorgeous are those!?  I wouldn’t mind some sparkly orchid hued Kate Spade heels either.  Oh the possibilities…

Happy New Year!!  We are starting the new year off with a 2013 Wedding Season Wrap Up.  We are super excited for all of the amazing weddings we have booked so far for 2014… but before we launch into a new season, here’s a look back at some of our favorite work from 2013.    We designed and installed fifteen weddings in 2013 along with several photo shoots.  We met the most sincere couples and worked with some of Chicago’s top talent.  It truly was a fabulous year.  As if we could top 2013, it is shaping up to be pretty amazing as well with weddings in downtown Chicago at the Knickerbocker Hotel, Chicago History Museum & Chicago Cultural Center & Greenhouse Loft to name a few.  Thanks to all of our 2013 couples for trusting us with your most special day and to all of our 2014 couples we can’t wait to help you celebrate in style this year!

Modern Wing Wedding at the Art Institute of Chicago

Posted on October 29th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Today on the blog, we are pleased to share a few images from Mary Ellen & Chris’s stunning October wedding at The Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago.  Bluhm Terrace, where Mary Ellen and Chris exchanged  vows, has one of the most breathtaking views of the city.  It overlooks Millennium Park and all of its fall beauty.  For anyone planning a city wedding, this venue is a must see!  The pictures I took simply DO NOT do it justice!

Mary Ellen & Chris came to us with a jewel tone color palette, perfect for a Fall wedding!  They were looking for modern, colorful centerpieces that would provide a wow-factor for their guests.  We covered the tables with gunmetal-gray table runners to help bring out the deep, rich colors of the floral palate.  For the centerpieces we used a variety of square vases, ranging in size, to give a modern look, and filled them with lush, tropical blooms and foliage.  The delphinium that we used was some of the most beautiful delphinium I have ever seen!  The head table was quite possibly my favorite part of the wedding to design.  We created a very unique, linear centerpiece with the large … Read More »
