‘Mom & Me’ Floral Design Workshop Review

Posted on June 8th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Uncategorized. No Comments

This past month we hosted our second floral designing workshop at our studio where attendees got to design their own floral compotes with their moms, daughters, sisters, etc.  We had a great group and we were so impressed with everyones’ final products.  In addition to teaching proper design technique and form, we taught a little bit about how to prep your flowers, your vase, and even a bit about how to properly care for your arrangement to get the most life out of it.  At the end, everyone got to take their arrangements home with them to enjoy!  Below are some photos of our wonderful students in action! Thanks to everyone for coming out, we hope you had as much fun as we did.

The Whole Group!  Everyone did amazing!!!!

And finally, the teachers with our Moms <3!

Flower Crown Bachelorette Workshop

Posted on May 12th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Uncategorized. No Comments

What could be a better start to a bachelorette party than champagne, cupcakes, music and all of your best friends creating flower crowns together? That was the start to Alyssa’s bachelorette party, a Life in Bloom Flower Crown Workshop! We had an absolute blast instructing Alyssa and her girls on how to create the perfect flower crown that they could wear around town afterwards for dinner and karaoke.

The day started with a greeting of champagne and cupcakes from Sweet Mandy B’s and ended with group pictures before heading off to their night on the town.

With buckets of florals and greenery to choose from, each crown was so unique and different! Some chose soft wildflowers, while others opted for much bolder blooms; we really saw their personalities shine through crown by crown. Once everyone was finished we just had to snap a picture of each girl and we’re sure glad we did. Check out all of the amazing crowns made at Alyssa’s Bachelorette below:

The Whole Crew, looking fabulous with their crowns!

The bachelorette & I!

We loved the workshop so much we are planning on hosting more in our space throughout the summer and Fall.  What types of stuff should we design?  Comment … Read More »

Chicago Athletic Association Wedding

Posted on April 25th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

Back in November we produced an intimate, moody, candlelit wedding at the Chicago Athletic Association’s White City Ballroom for two very special Brides. The first snowfall of the year delicately covered the ground outside and made for a wintery whimsical view from the White City Ballroom while setting up.  From the ceremony to the dinner reception, the mood was extremely romantic and elegant.  An aisle flanked by two wood pedestals topped with robust beautiful pedestal arrangements, surrounded by a mass of pillar candles welcomed guests into the space.  At the end of the aisle awaited a 3/4 ring of garland with hundreds of candles. scattered throughout.  Absolutely Stunning!

After the ceremony, guests moved into the next room for cocktail hour as we quickly transformed the room into an equally stunning environment.  Keeping with the dark and moody feel, the tables were adorned with brass compote centerpieces full of loose organic blooms such as wine anemone, burgundy scabiosa, navy privet berries, lavender, chocolate queen anne’s lace, & amnesia roses.  Lots of greenery accented the floral including seeded eucalyptus, purple smokebush, agonis, olive and delicately trailing jasmine vine.  Petite cloches enclosing roses, adorned with gold vinyl numbers helped guests find their seats.  Clear crystal patterned and rose gold … Read More »

Hinsdale Golf Club Wedding

Posted on April 19th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Uncategorized. No Comments

This wedding (and I mean this when I say it) was the definition of class.  With a great vendor team led by Kara Superfine, beautiful photographs by Averyhouse, and a gorgeous venue that is the Hinsdale Golf Club, how could you possibly go wrong?  You never know what October is going to bring you.  Some days are cool and rainy and other days, like this one, are full of sunshine and a crisp breeze.  Kristin & Phil really lucked out with the perfect autumn day and we felt honored to play a roll in making their day so stunning.

From the loose and organic bouquets to the oversized ceremony arrangements, every piece flowed together seamlessly.  A lot of that credit goes to Kara Superfine whose attention to detail is off the charts perfect.

In addition to the ceremony urn arrangements, we created wreaths that welcomed the guests into the church as well as a number of gorgeous pew accents.

Usually from a decor perspective, cocktail hour takes a back seat to the rest of the day’s events, but not with this wedding.  Two stunning arrangements welcomed guests into a tent on the great lawn just outside of the Golf Club.  Inside of the tent, lanterns with accents … Read More »

ArTango Summer Wedding in Chicago

Posted on March 7th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

This summer wedding was full of candlelight and color at the Ravenswood Restaurant of ArTango.  Laura & Dov were having a family style dinner with tapas so we adorned their tables with rustic brown lanterns, succulents, votives and bud vases full of vibrant colored flowers.  The floral palette was full of pinks, lavender, peaches, and blue and was the perfect colorful accent to the rustic look of the venue.  One of our favorite details of this wedding was the delicate flower girl crown composed of lavender, astilbe, and wax flower.  Our other favorite element was Laura’s stunning bridal bouquet.  It was lush & textural and the pastel colors complimented her gorgeous blush dress perfectly.  The dusty blue succulents, and hanging green amaranthus just added another dimension to the bouquet.  Congratulations Laura & Dov!  Thanks for having such a great vision and for allowing us to play a small part in your special day.

Armour House Lake Forest Academy Wedding

Posted on February 24th, by Life in Bloom in blog. No Comments

We hope you are ready for a whole lot of prettiness!  This wedding that we produced this past August at the Armour House in Lake Forest, IL had plenty prettiness to go around and was something straight out of a fairy tale!  This sweet couple had a vision of a blue floral palette, which can be tricky, but we were up for the challenge.  Starting with the Bridal Bouquet which consisted of dusty miller and brunnia berries along with a primarily white collection of garden roses, anemone and lisianthus, we tied that all together with a beautiful soft blue ribbon from Silk & Willow.  The Bridesmaids had similar flowers with the addition of Privet Berries and pops of pale blue Tweedia.

The main focal of the ceremony were the two large urn arrangements which overflowed with the most stunning blue hydrangea accented with dusty miller and blue Delphinium. These two arrangements sat on white pedestals which helped to frame the ceremony space perfectly in the outdoor garden which can otherwise feel like a big open space.

Moving into the Reception, guests couldn’t help but admire the jaw-dropping staircase display that we put together.  We completely covered … Read More »

Life In Bloom – The Early Days

Posted on February 4th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Uncategorized. 2 comments

Last night I had the privilege of attending the Wyffels Hybrids Employee Appreciation Dinner.

Wyffels Hybrids has several employees who have worked over 20 years for the company.  A man by the name of David Strawn, a District Sales Manager, is one of those long-term employees.  Last night, he gave his retiree speech and it was very inspiring to me.  At the end of his speech he stated that, “There is no better company in seed that you can work for.  This is it.  Wyffels.  Legacy.  Values.  And the Best seed out there.”

A little back-story about Wyffels Hybrids… My father & Uncle took over the company after the untimely passing of my Grandfather (their father) and grew a company with just under a handful employees to the business that it is today with over 120 full time employees.

Their entrepreneurial ways, inspired me to follow in their footsteps even at a young age.  I also like to believe that my approach to the exceptional customer experience also stemmed from the early days of watching how they did business.

My first business ‘venture’ was selling sweet corn on the sidewalk right outside our home.  My brother and I would wake up early in the … Read More »

Pattern Profusion

Posted on January 24th, by Life in Bloom in blog, Uncategorized. No Comments

Today, we are looking at patterns that we love.  Patterns can be used to influence the aesthetic of your wedding in a multitude of ways.  Below are just a few ways that come to mind depending on how adventurous you want to be:

1) Incorporating a pattern into your invitations and save the dates.

2) If you really want to make a statement, a printed graphic pattern for your band, DJ, or perhaps your sweetheart table could be the perfect backdrop and really customize that space for your wedding day.

3) Patterned Linens, runners, or napkins are a subtle way to add character without causing too much distraction.

4) If you feel like really pushing it, how fun would it be to take your favorite pattern and have your florist recreate it with flowers via an oversized floral wall? Pretty please, can we do this for you?

Below are some patterns that catch our eye…

Bridgeport Art Center Wedding

Posted on September 21st, by Life in Bloom in blog, Uncategorized. No Comments

This past June, we had the joy of designing and producing a beautiful wedding at the Bridgeport Art Center’s Skyline Loft.  This was our second wedding that we had done at Bridgeport and just like the last one, the bride and groom were close friends which made this one even more special.

There were so many beautiful elements and details that made up Sean and Morgan’s Preppy, Hamptons – Inspired Wedding and in a less-than-modest way, I think we nailed it! Some of the elements worth noting:

Elevator Garlands: If you have ever been to a wedding or an event at the Bridgeport Art Center, you know how exciting entering the space can be. An oversized freight elevator equipped with a full bar and lounge grouping transported guests to the skyline loft at the top floor.  We draped garlands along the elevator, creating a super cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Ceremony Trellis Backdrop: Sean and Morgan exchanged vows in front of this all white trellis backdrop covered in smilax and accented with pops of plush peonies and ivory spray roses.  At the start of the aisle stood two boxwood topiaries welcoming guests into this garden-inspired affair.

The Hydrangea Garland: Over 130 stems were used to create this lush hydrangea garland that ran the … Read More »
